HALIFAX, N.S. – Acadia University announced today a partnership between its Department of Varsity Athletics and BMO to host the 2016 Canadian Interuniversity Sport Women’s Soccer Championship November 10-13, 2016 in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.
The 11-game championship weekend will feature eight teams from four regional conferences, including the OUA, AUS, RSEQ and Canada West.
As title sponsor of the four-day event, BMO is proud to support soccer across Canada, including this fall’s CIS soccer championships. Victor Pellegrino, Senior Vice-President, Canadian Personal and Commercial Banking, Atlantic Provinces Division, was pleased to announce BMO’s support for the Championship.
“BMO is delighted to partner with Acadia University Athletics to bring a CIS level soccer championship to the maritimes,” stated Victor Pellegrino. “BMO is a proud supporter of soccer sponsoring more than 118 clubs, 1,400 teams, and 20,000 players through community soccer programs across Canada. University soccer is an important step in the development process for future soccer players. Soccer teaches perseverance, teamwork and dedication – three important qualities that athletes need in order to succeed both on and off the field of play.”
The Championship, which Acadia hosted previously in 2000, returns to Wolfville after a 16-year hiatus and Director of Athletics Kevin Dickie noted the important relationship that exists between BMO and Acadia University.
“Acadia University is excited and proud to partner with our long-standing friend, BMO, to host the 2016 CIS Women’s Soccer Championship for the Annapolis Valley and Nova Scotia,” Dickie said. “Acadia University’s association with BMO has a history of over a century, and BMO’s connection to the sport of soccer is evident throughout Canada. Our objectives are to host an unparalleled national championship in a special community, and to create a lasting impact on our young female soccer participants in the province.”
The four-day event will also feature a day of “Celebration of Soccer in Nova Scotia” on Saturday, November 12 at the Bedford, Nova Scotia BMO Centre, produced by Sports & Entertainment Atlantic.
