U Sports Final 8 Halifax 2017/2018
(HALIFAX, October 27, 2016): Sports & Entertainment Atlantic, Dalhousie Athletics and Acadia Athletics are pleased to announce a number of exciting details for the U Sports Final 8 returning home to the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax this coming March 9-12, 2017. The U Sports Final 8 Men’s Basketball Championship is the premier elite amateur basketball event in Canada and as such we have formed two important partnerships that we believe will contribute to our mission of raising the profile of amateur basketball in Nova Scotia.
“Bringing together local and national partners is key to our goal of making the 2017 U Sports Final 8 a huge success.” commented Tm Maloney, Dalhousie Director of Athletics “Excitement continues to grow around the return of the Final 8 to Halifax, where it enjoyed decades of success.”
Partnership with Canada Basketball – Canada Basketball will run clinics for youth, officials and coaches throughout Championship Week and will partner with S|E|A to produce a Canada Basketball U19 Showcase Game and a U17 Showcase Game featuring the top National basketball prospects in eastern Canada.
Partnership with Basketball Nova Scotia – A special incentive program has been created that allows minor basketball players to sell tickets to the U Sports Final 8 at a 50% discount and have the chance to win a number of exciting rewards. Minor basketball players selling the tickets will be entered in a draw to win a trip for two to Toronto for a Raptors game, while their team will be entered in a draw to win an “Ultimate Team Party” at the U Sports Final 8 AND their association/club earns the opportunity to raise funds through 50/50 sales at the championship. Ticket purchasers through this program will receive a ticket to a Final 8 doubleheader and also be entered in an additional draw for a trip for two to Toronto to attend a Raptors game. Additionally, all minor basketball teams from across Nova Scotia were provided complimentary tickets to the Varsity Showdown on October 27th to help build excitement for the start of the minor season.
“Pursuing these grassroots partnerships has been a key focus from the moment we decided to submit a bid to bring the Final 8 back to Halifax” said Derek Martin, President of Sports & Entertainment Atlantic, producers of the event “We wanted this event to be more than a series of elite basketball games, we wanted it to be a true celebration of amateur basketball, promoting engagement by basketball players and fans of all ages.”
