(Halifax, October 26th, 2016):  Sports & Entertainment Atlantic (S|E|A), in partnership with Dalhousie Athletics, Acadia Athletics and Basketball Nova Scotia, is excited to be hosting the Varsity Showdown at the Scotiabank Centre in downtown Halifax this Thursday October 27, 2016.

Varsity Showdown will showcase some of the very best basketball talent in our region during a doubleheader of hard court action.  Tipping off at 6pm, the gold medal-winning players from the U17 and U15 Nova Scotia provincial teams will compete in an All-Star Showcase followed at 8pm by an AUS exhibition between the nationally 5th ranked, defending AUS champion and 2017 CIS Final 8 host Dalhousie Tigers and our 2018 CIS Final 8 host Acadia Axemen, men’s basketball teams.

“Varsity Showdown will provide a terrific platform to showcase the amazing amateur basketball talent in our province.” said Derek Martin, President of S|E|A, producers of the CIS Final 8. “We are thrilled to be partnering with Dalhousie and Acadia to bring the CIS Final 8 home to Halifax in 2017 and 2018. We felt there was no better way to tip things off then by inviting our partners at Basketball Nova Scotia to the party and profiling the gold medal winning U17 and U15 teams in front of thousands of young basketball players”

Every minor basketball team throughout the province has been provided with free tickets to this amateur basketball celebration thanks to the support of O’Regan’s on Robie and over 2,500 young players and students have already confirmed their attendance! Tickets are still available to basketball fans from across the region for the price of $10 for adults and $5 for students and youth.  Prices include HST but are subject to a $1.50 ticket service charge through Ticket Atlantic.

“We are excited for the opportunity to showcase our National Champions on the floor of the Scotiabank Centre on October 27th in front of our minor basketball teams right before they kick off their season.” commented Basketball Nova Scotia Executive Director Dave Wagg “Winning two national championships is a momentous accomplishment for basketball in our province. We know these championships will have positive effects on our provincial system for years to come”
