Shoot 4 the Cause at Final 8

(HALIFAX, March 8, 2017): The Final 8 organizing committee is very pleased to announce an innovative and exciting partnership called “Shoot 4 the Cause” that has the potential to raise $100,000 during the U Sports Final 8 Men’s Basketball National Championships taking place March 9-12 at the Scotiabank Centre in downtown Halifax.

At 4 of our marquee doubleheader events, we have invited 4 local charities to participate: Habitat for Humanity, March of Dimes Canada, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada and Feed Nova Scotia.  Each charity will accept donations at the various entrances to the Scotiabank Centre, giving each fan that makes a donation, a ticket in a draw to participate in a halftime contest to win $20,000!  A lucky contestant’s name will be drawn each night and given the chance to complete a layup, a free throw, a 3-point shot and finally…a half-court shot.  If they are successful in making all 4 shots they will win, $10,000 cash for them AND we will donate $10,000 cash in their name to the charity of the night!  Each charity will keep 100% of the donations they collect at the door

“Sport tourism events such as the Final 8 are important to Halifax, not just because they provide fantastic entertainment, but because they can benefit our entire community, whether it be through economic activity in our downtown or through raising awareness and funds for the worthwhile charities working hard every day in our backyard” said Derek Martin, President of Sports & Entertainment Atlantic, the producers of the event.

The scheduled doubleheaders for “Shoot 4 the Cause”, along with the associated charity partner, will be:

Thursday, March 9th at 6pm – Habitat for Humanity

Friday, March 10th at 6pm – March of Dimes Canada

Saturday, March 11th at 1pm – Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada
