President and Founder
Derek Martin is Founder and President of Sports & Entertainment Atlantic.
Originally from Hamilton ON, Derek attended St Francis Xavier University in Antigonish where, as quarterback of the X-Men football team, he fashioned a recording setting five year career before spending time in Europe playing
professionally. Returning to Canada, Martin’s working career began in Toronto in roles with NFL Canada and Vanier Cup, before heading back to the Maritimes.
Over the past four years Martin and S|E|A have staged record setting U SPORTS championships in Halifax, featuring University Cup in 2015-2016 and Final 8 in 2017-2018.
Today, under Martin’s leadership, S|E|A has successfully secured the management rights to Wanderers Grounds in downtown Halifax as well as being the holder of the franchise rights for a professional soccer team to begin play in Spring 2019 in the newly founded Canadian Premier League.
Derek and his wife Allison live in Halifax and are proud parents of sons Sam and Quinn.
S|E|A has contributed to a number of high profile sporting events throughout Canada including the Vanier Cup, Touchdown Atlantic, Uteck Bowl, Saint Mary’s University Football, Football Canada Cup, Canada Winter Games, Tall Ships Nova Scotia Festival, Canadian Open (Volleyball Canada) and the successful 2011 & 2012 FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch Junior World Championships on the Halifax Waterfront; This visionary event involved trucking 3,000 tonnes of sand and 2,000 temporary seats into a downtown parking lot to create a world class beach volleyball stadium.
In addition to creating and producing unique sport properties, S|E|A also works with a number of brands to help bring their sport sponsorships to life. Most recently, they have worked with Rogers (CIS Uteck Bowl), Pepsi (CIS Final 8), Molson (Touchdown Atlantic), and the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation (2011 Canada Games) creating unique, targeted activations to help their clients achieve their goals.
VP Commercial Development
Chris Larsen is the Vice President, Commercial Development at Sports & Entertainment Atlantic (S|E|A), providing extensive professional expertise and leading edge solutions across all aspects of Partnership and Sponsorship Marketing.
Larsen attended University of Pennsylvania on a hockey scholarship. His hockey path also included a tryout with the Toronto Maple Leafs before beginning his working career in Toronto after graduation.
Larsen has over 30 years experience in executive positions with major international corporations. A proud Atlantic Canadian since 1982, Larsen has held senior management positions with Canadian Airlines and Canada Post before moving into the Event Management business.
Larsen’s key accomplishments include serving as Event Manager of the 2003 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship and General Manager (10 years) and Sponsorship Director for the award winning Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon.
Since 2006, Larsen has been a valuable contributor to record setting results for 2011-2014 SandJam Beach Volleyball tournaments on the Halifax Waterfront, the U SPORTS University Cup 2015-2106 and the U SPORTS Final 8 Men’s Basketball Championships 2017-2018. Larsen is Managing Director and one of the founders of the Maritime NHL’ers for Kids celebrity fund raising golf tournament, helping to ease the financial burdens preventing young boys and girls from playing minor hockey in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI.
Born in London ON and raised in Welland, Larsen now lives in Halifax after having spent time in Toronto, Montreal, Gander NL and St, John’s NL.

Prior to joining S|E|A, Rhea worked for T1Agency in Toronto, an experiential marketing agency. She arranged events with the T1 Agency all across the country that ranged from sporting events, to music concerts and to food and beverage.
She attended St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish NS , graduating and with a Bachelor in Business Administration and a major in Marketing. Following graduation, she moved to Toronto to continue her education and complete a post-graduate program in Event Marketing.
Rhea was born and raised in Dartmouth Nova Scotia and continues to call Dartmouth home since returning from Toronto in December 2017.
Rhéa Koivu is the Business Operations Manager at Sports & Entertainment Atlantic (S|E|A). In this role, Rhea has overall responsibility for the successful planning and delivery of major S|E|A events, managing ticketing, and the company's online profile. She joined S|E|A in April 2018 and has taken the leadership role managing all events at the Wanderers Grounds in Halifax. This included international rugby and soccer matches, professional golf tournaments, and youth sport tournaments.
